ATTORNEY PROFILE
Personal.
I was born on 8/18/47 and have been a life-long Indianapolis resident. My wife, Ann, and I were married on 8/21/71, and we have two daughters (both of whom are adopted) – Claire, born in 1980, and Abbey, born in 1985. Ann has been teaching 8th grade science since 1976 at Belzer Middle School (Lawrence Township, Marion County, IN). Claire Olvey lives in Indianapolis, and Abbey is attending the International Academy of Design and Technology in Chicago.
Education.
I am a 1965 graduate of Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis, Indiana and a 1969 cum laude graduate of Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana. My law degree (1972) is from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Professional/Civic.
I began the private practice of law in 1972 immediately upon graduation from law school, and my focus during my years of practice has been on "personal services" areas of the law, including wills and trusts, the administration of decedent's estates and adoptions. While in an office sharing arrangement with two other lawyers, Dave Schnorr and Brian Maier, I currently am a sole practitioner. I am a member of the Indianapolis and Indiana Bar Associations, and my immediate past position was as a partner with Leagre, Chandler & Millard, an Indianapolis law firm. I have been a presenter at adoption law seminars, speaking on the role of adoption agencies and providing an overview of Indiana adoption law.
Currently, I serve on the Boards of Habitat For Humanity of Greater Indianapolis, Inc. and the Indianapolis Respect Academy (pre-school), and my past Board memberships have included Bethany Christian Services of Central Indiana, a licensed child placing agency, the Hanover College Alumni Association and Church at the Crossing.
Activities.
Ann and I enjoy walking and travel, and I swim regularly in order to stay in some reasonable shape! We also enjoy family outings of various kinds and are very close to our daughters. Our church is a most integral part of our lives. I am in the choir and have served on the Board of Elders and Ann teaches a 4th grade Sunday School class
